Daniel Dean is an artist focused on sculpture, photography, video, site specific installation and collaborative art making which he has developed into a series of projects with a focus on community, public space, sustainability, economics, and politics. In 2009, he collaborated with a fellow artist to transform a cast-off shipping container into a solar-powered experimental gallery/studio. He creates videos and sound art that remix both old and contemporary sources into new works. Dean often pursues collaboration as a means to develop an interdisciplinary dialog and explore social relationships, participation and issues of public/private space. Dean has exhibited and installed temporary public works, objects and media works at: The Soap Factory, Minneapolis; The Beijing Film Academy; Northern Spark, Minneapolis; The Katzen Arts Center, Washington, DC; Nathan Cummings Foundation, NYC; The World Bank, DC; The Katherine Nash Gallery, Minneapolis; Bakken Museum, Minneapolis; ZKM, Karlsruhe Germany; NGBK, Berlin.
